A short history of the trunk
One of the oldest known trunks dates back to the golden age of the Egyptian pharaohs. Many trunks were found in Tutankhamun's tomb. Even the Greeks and Romans used them on every important journey. At the time, the trunk was a chest made of wood and bronze, sometimes decorated with ivory and precious metal ornaments. The lid was flat to allow the trunks to be stacked on top of each other in the means of transport used. With the discovery of America in 1492, trunks filled with all the new fruits and products of the New World crossed the ocean to reach the Old World. The Industrial Revolution swept through the 19th century with the beginning of a new concept of travel trunks. Little by little, the trunk became established in homes, becoming the perfect container for childhood memories or the very practical coffee table!
