A short history of the Louis Philippe mirror
At the time, the mirrors of the great monarchs were recognizable by their cornices loaded with decorations. But during the reign of Louis-Philippe, a bourgeois style developed, less concerned with originality than with comfort. Louis-Philippe's mirrors were then intended to be more sober and more refined. Unlike the mirrors of previous eras, the wood was no longer sculpted, but molded and coated with a glue primer. The top of the mirror frame is rounded, in the shape of a gendarme's hat. For decoration, pearls or acanthus leaves in the lower part highlight the cornice with a gilded gold leaf effect that illuminates the whole.
