A Brief History of the Serving Trolley
The serving trolley, also known as a dumbwaiter, emerged in the 17th century. At the time, it was used to serve and clear dishes and tableware during meals. Equipped with castors, it could be moved effortlessly from one place to another, allowing for faster table clearing by reducing the number of trips between the dining room and the kitchen. Due to its great utility, the serving trolley became an important piece of furniture, also used for serving tea or breakfast. This small mobile side table has found a prominent place in our homes over the centuries.
