A short history of the Louis Philippe mirror
At the time, the mirrors of the great monarchs were recognizable by their ornate cornices. But during the reign of Louis-Philippe, a bourgeois style developed, less concerned with originality than with comfort. Louis-Philippe's mirrors were then intended to be more sober and refined. Unlike mirrors of previous eras, the wood was no longer carved, but molded and coated with a glue primer. The top of the mirror frame is rounded, in the shape of a gendarme's hat.
