A short history of the rocking chair
It was in the 18th century that the rocking chair appeared in English families. It reflected the new way of life of society that aspired to more comfort and frivolity in their daily lives. The family manufacturer Thonet seized on the model to reinvent the rocking chair with the technique of steam-bent curved wood. The rocking chair caused a sensation in Europe and was imported to the United States, where the rocking chair became a staple of the American Empire style.
