This second-hand dark wood desk captivates with its country-style lines and carved details, which give it a sober and refined appearance. Its two fold-down side panels allow the tabletop to be enlarged as needed, while the two front drawers offer shallow storage for papers and everyday essentials. The carved footrests and two lyre-shaped legs highlight a full-of-personality design without weighing down the overall look. Placed in a study or bedroom, it pairs beautifully with a distressed wooden chair and a few carefully chosen desk accessories. Tucked under a window, it can hold an inkwell, an open notebook, and a lamp with a linen shade.

A brief history of the desk
It all began with the "bure," a thick brown wool cloth that covered the tables of copying monks to protect their precious manuscripts. By extension, the table itself eventually took the name of the fabric that covered it: the desk. Unlike a secretary desk, it is defined by its wide fixed tabletop and exposed base, offering an unadorned space for reflection. Also known as a "flat desk," it remains the centerpiece for anchoring a workspace with character.
