This antique French sewing table captivates with its light wood accented by black and its Scandinavian spirit, in a very refined contemporary interpretation. Its extendable top provides great flexibility of use, while its compass legs lend a light silhouette to an office or bedroom. Sourced second-hand, it offers a comfortable workspace with generous legroom, and its drawer accommodates daily essentials. Closed, it is discreet against a wall; opened, it frees up more surface area for writing, working, or sewing. On its top, a slim lamp and a few notebooks compose a sober and elegant scene.

A brief history of the desk
It all began with the "bure," a thick brown woolen cloth that covered the tables of copyist monks to protect their precious manuscripts. By extension, the table itself eventually took the name of the fabric that covered it: the "bureau" (desk). Unlike the secretary, it is defined by its wide fixed top and visible legs, offering a workspace without artifice. Also known as a "flat desk," it remains the centerpiece for anchoring a workspace with character.
