A Brief History of the Desk
It all began with the "bure," a thick, brown woolen cloth that covered the tables of copyist monks to protect their precious manuscripts. By extension, the table itself eventually took the name of the fabric that covered it: the "bureau" (desk). Unlike a secretary desk, it is defined by its wide fixed top and visible legs, offering a straightforward space for reflection. Also known as a "flat-top desk," it remains the centerpiece for grounding a workspace with character.
