A brief history of the wall light
The wall light descends from medieval "light arms," those torches fixed to walls to illuminate hallways without obstructing the way. Long before electricity, it was a marvel of ingenuity: it often incorporated a mirror plate or polished metal at the back, a technical trick essential for doubling the candle's glow through simple reflection. In the 18th century, it moved from passageways to reception rooms, adorned with bronze and crystal to become a true instrument of theatrical effect. Its wall position allowed it to highlight woodwork and architectural reliefs, creating plays of shadows impossible to achieve with central lighting.
