A brief history of the farm table
A centerpiece of rural life in the 19th century, the farm table was designed to last for generations and accommodate large peasant gatherings. It is recognizable by its thick solid wood top, often marked by the passage of time, and its robust base, with or without a stretcher bar. Called a "refectory table" or "kitchen table", it was designed to withstand daily tasks as well as family banquets.
