A brief history of the farm table
A centerpiece of rural life in the 19th century, the farm table was crafted to last for generations and accommodate large family gatherings. It is recognizable by its thick solid wood top, often marked by the passage of time, and its sturdy legs, sometimes connected by a "foot bar" or stretcher. Known as a "refectory table" or "kitchen table," it was designed to withstand daily work as well as family banquets.
