A brief history of the farm table
A central piece of rural life in the 19th century, the farm table was designed to last for generations and host large peasant gatherings. It is recognizable by its thick solid wood top, often marked by the passage of time, and its robust base, sometimes connected by a "foot bar" or stretcher. Called a "refectory table" or "kitchen table," it was designed to withstand daily work as well as family banquets.
