A brief history of the home bar
An heir to the 19th-century "liqueur cabinet," the bar took its current form during Prohibition in the United States, where it was initially concealed in secret-compartment bookcases. It wasn't until the rise of cocktails in the 1930s that it emerged from the shadows to become a statement piece, symbolizing chic style and the art of home entertaining. Its structure is distinguished by a raised counter and an interior space optimized for glassware, often featuring a brass footrest to support a standing posture. Whether fixed or mobile in the form of a serving cart, it is designed to be the strategic gathering point of the living room, transforming every tasting into a true ritual of conviviality.
