A brief history of the chauffeuse
Its name is no accident: in the 18th century, the chauffeuse was a low chair placed close to the hearth to warm oneself without hindering heat circulation. Its silhouette is recognizable by its low-to-the-ground seat and high backrest, a structure designed for dressing or nursing near the fire, away from drafts. And did you know? Its low height was primarily used by ladies to more easily put on their stockings and shoes.
