A brief history of the chauffeuse
Its name is no accident: in the 18th century, the chauffeuse was a low chair placed as close as possible to the hearth to warm oneself without hindering the circulation of heat. Its silhouette is recognized by its low-to-the-ground seat and high backrest, a structure designed for dressing or breastfeeding near the fire, away from drafts. And did you know? Its low height was mainly used by ladies to more easily put on their stockings and shoes.
