With its compass legs and Scandinavian-inspired lines, this light wood chest of drawers adds a gentle contemporary touch. Carefully hand-stripped, it reveals a luminous wood, enhanced by black-painted edges that accentuate its silhouette. Its drawers, with their comfortable proportions, offer practical storage for clothes, documents, or small everyday essentials. Its measured size allows it to find a place in a bedroom, a living room, or even an entryway, with a lamp and a few books placed on top. Topped with a ceramic vase and a round mirror, it creates a simple and elegant setting. A second-hand piece, it bears the marks of its history: the shelf in the right cupboard could be replaced for more sturdiness, but it is easily removable should you wish to replace it.

A brief history of the chest of drawers
Its French name, "commode," says it all: it was born to be "convenient," replacing the deep trunks where everything was piled in a jumble. Appearing during the reign of Louis XIV, it was such a prestigious display piece that it often took pride of place in reception bedrooms rather than walk-in closets. It introduced the sliding drawer, a revolution that finally allowed access to one's belongings without emptying everything out. Whether called a "commode sauteuse" (on high legs) or a "commode tombeau," it is defined by its generous top and its facade, structured by two or three rows of drawers.
