This vintage light wood and rattan chest of drawers charms with its sober lines, highlighted by cane-work drawers that bring a contemporary touch to the piece. Its three drawers offer practical storage for linens, accessories, or paperwork, while its measured dimensions allow it to fit just as well in a bedroom as in an entryway. The light wood exudes a soft, luminous feel, easy to pair with linen, an antique mirror, or a ceramic lamp. As a secondhand piece, it integrates naturally into a decor mixing thrifted finds and natural materials. Placed under a graphic poster, it will happily hold a jewelry dish and a few books. A secondhand piece, it bears the traces of its history: the drawers are a bit difficult to close.

A brief history of the chest of drawers
Its name (in French, "commode" meaning "convenient") says it all: it was born to be useful, replacing deep chests where everything was piled up in a jumble. Appearing during the reign of Louis XIV, it was such a prestigious display piece that it often took pride of place in reception rooms rather than walk-in closets. It introduced the sliding drawer, a revolution that finally allowed one to access their belongings without emptying everything out. Whether called a "sauteuse" (on tall legs) or a "tombeau" (tomb) chest, it is defined by its generous top and its facade, structured by two or three rows of drawers.
