A brief history of the china cabinet
A direct evolution of the family sideboard, the china cabinet emerged in the 18th century to showcase the household's wealth through its finest earthenware pieces. Its structure is distinguished by an open or glass-fronted upper section, once equipped with "crenelations"—specific notches designed to hold plates vertically and protect them from damage. Whether called a "dresser" or a "two-body sideboard," it is designed to bring verticality and character to a living space.
