A brief history of the cupboard
A direct evolution of the family sideboard, the cupboard originated in the 18th century to showcase the household's wealth through its finest earthenware pieces. Its structure is distinguished by an open or glazed upper section, historically fitted with "crenelations"—specific notches designed to hold plates upright and protect them from impact. Whether called a "dresser" or a "two-body sideboard," it is designed to bring verticality and character to a living space.
