A Brief History of the Dresser
A direct evolution of the family buffet, the dresser originated in the 18th century to display the wealth of the household through its finest earthenware pieces. Its structure is distinguished by an open or glass-fronted upper part, once equipped with "crenelations," specific notches to hold plates upright and protect them from shocks. Whether called a "dressoir" or "two-piece buffet," it is designed to bring verticality and character to a living space.
