A short history of the trunk
One of the oldest known trunks dates back to the golden age of the Egyptian pharaohs. Many chests were indeed found in the tomb of Tutankhamun. Even the Greeks and Romans used them for all important journeys. At the time, the trunk was a wooden and bronze chest, sometimes decorated with ivory ornaments and precious metals. The lid was flat to allow trunks to be stacked in the transport being used. Upon the discovery of America in 1492, trunks filled with all the new fruits and products of the New World crossed the ocean to reach the Old World. The Industrial Revolution swept through the 19th century with the beginning of a new concept for travel trunks. Little by little, the chest made its way into interiors, becoming the perfect container for childhood memories or a very practical coffee table!
