A Brief History of Trunks
One of the oldest known trunks dates back to the golden age of the Egyptian pharaohs. Many chests were indeed found in Tutankhamun's tomb. Even the Greeks and Romans used them on all important journeys. At the time, the trunk was a wooden and bronze chest, sometimes decorated with ivory and precious metal ornaments. The lid was flat to allow trunks to be stacked on top of each other in the mode of transport used. With the discovery of America in 1492, trunks filled with all the new fruits and products from the New World crossed the ocean to reach the Old World. The industrial revolution swept through the 19th century with the beginning of a new concept of travel trunks.
