A short history of the trunk
One of the oldest known trunks dates back to the golden age of the Egyptian pharaohs. Many trunks were indeed found in Tutankhamun's tomb. Even the Greeks and Romans used them for all important journeys. At that time, the trunk was a chest made of wood and bronze, sometimes decorated with ivory and precious metal ornaments. The lid was flat to allow trunks to be stacked in the means of transport used.
