A Brief History of the Coffee Table
Unlike dining tables, the coffee table truly only appeared at the beginning of the 20th century with the evolution of living rooms towards greater comfort and relaxation. Its deliberately low structure, designed to align with the seating of armchairs, is inspired by oriental tea tables and 19th-century coffee stands. Called a "salon table" or "cocktail table," it is defined by its generous top supported by short, sturdy legs.
