A brief history of the secretary desk
Born in the 18th century under the impetus of brilliant cabinetmakers like Jean-François Oeben, the secretary desk is the guardian of intimate correspondence. Its fall-front reveals a "tier," a set of small drawers and niches designed for surgical organization. Some models even hid secrets: drawers invisible to the naked eye, activated by springs concealed under a molding.
