Born in the 18th century under the impetus of brilliant cabinetmakers like Jean-François Oeben, the secretary desk is the guardian of intimate correspondence. Its drop-front reveals a "tiered interior," a collection of small drawers and niches designed for meticulous organization. Some models even hid secrets: invisible drawers activated by springs concealed under a molding.
