A brief history of the service
The serving table, also called a side table, originated in the 17th century. At that time, it was used to serve and clear dishes and tableware during meals. Equipped with casters, it could be moved effortlessly from one place to another, allowing for faster table clearing by reducing the number of trips between the dining room and the kitchen. Its great utility made the serving table an important piece of furniture, also used for serving tea or breakfast. This small, mobile side table has, over the centuries, found a place of honor in our homes.
