A Brief History of the Side Table
Born in the 17th century as the "guéridon," the side table owes its origin to Moorish slaves (called guéridons) depicted on the carved legs of the first models brought back from Italy. This mobile piece of furniture revolutionized social life at court by breaking the rigidity of large buffets to create conversation areas anywhere in the room. Its light and compact structure was designed to be moved as needed: to hold a candlestick, a teacup, or a bedside book.
