With its soft white finish and simple lines, this wooden chest of drawers brings a fresh, country-style touch to the home. Curated for its revamped look, this piece of furniture easily finds its place in a bedroom, entryway, or living room, where its modest height also makes it easy to set up a lamp or a trinket tray. Its dimensions make it an easy piece to integrate, offering a generous usable surface without cluttering the space. The white-painted wood pairs naturally with antique linens, natural fiber baskets, and a few ceramic accessories. A brief history of the chest of drawers
Its French name—*commode*—says it all: it was born to be "convenient," replacing deep chests where everything was piled up in a jumble. Appearing during the reign of Louis XIV, it was such a prestigious piece of parade furniture that it often took pride of place in receiving rooms rather than wardrobes. It introduced the sliding drawer , a revolution that finally allowed one to access their belongings without emptying everything out. Whether called a "sauteuse" (on high legs) or a "tombeau" (tomb) chest, it is defined by its generous top and a front punctuated by two or three rows of drawers.
