A brief history of the side table
Originating in the 17th century as a "guéridon," the side table traces its roots back to the Moorish slaves (called guéridons) depicted on the carved legs of the first models brought from Italy. This nomadic piece of furniture revolutionized social life at court by breaking the rigidity of large sideboards to create conversation nooks anywhere in a room. Its light and compact structure was designed to be moved as needed: to hold a candlestick, a cup of tea, or a bedside book.
