This dark wood workbench adds a striking touch to a living room or entryway. It is appealing for its small size and modest proportions, which allow it to slip in at the foot of a sofa or against a wall without weighing down the space. Its top easily accommodates a few books, a lamp, or a vase, serving equally well as a sofa end table or side table.

A brief history of trade furniture
A tool for work before becoming a decorative object, trade furniture emerged in the 19th century to meet the precision needs of apothecaries, printers, and grain merchants. Its structure, dictated by its function, is recognizable by its multitude of drawers and brass label holders that allowed inventory to be identified without a second lost. Whether called a "flat file cabinet" or an "atelier chest," it brings a raw industrial character and unparalleled storage capacity to any space today. This piece speaks of an era when furniture was an extension of the artisan's hand, making every sign of wear a testament to its past history.
