A second-hand piece, this ochre velvet armchair combines a cozy presence with wood carvings featuring Baroque accents, in a country-house spirit. Its tufted backrest and generously padded armrests create a welcoming seat, designed to accompany a moment of reading or a long break. The velvet engages with the wooden structure to create a refined look that is easy to pair with natural materials, from washed linen to patinated wood. Its high, deep seat allows it to fit perfectly in a living room, near a bookcase, or by a window. In a reading corner, it pairs beautifully with a wool throw, an open book, and a lamp placed on a side table. As a second-hand object, it carries the memory of its history: slightly faded with time.

A brief history of the armchair
While the chair is made for work or dining, the armchair was born in the 17th century for a single mission: rest. Its name derives from the Old French "faudesteuil," a folding seat for dignitaries, but it emancipated itself under Louis XV to become a piece of furniture designed for comfort, equipped with armrests. Unlike the standard chair, it favors a wider seat and a reclined backrest, inviting conversation rather than rigid posture. Whether it is a "bergère" with enclosed sides to shield from drafts or a lighter "bridge" chair, it embodies the evolution of the art of living.
