These two second-hand rattan armchairs bring a soft, country-style touch to a living room or veranda. The rattan forms a welcoming seat, with an enveloping backrest and pleasant proportions for everyday use. Their honey hue pairs easily with a wooden side table, a natural fiber rug, or off-white household linens. As a pair, they create a harmonious reading nook around a lamp placed on a small console table. Placed near a window, they are the perfect spot for a folded throw and an open book.

A brief history of the armchair
While the chair is designed for work or dining, the armchair was born in the 17th century for a single purpose: rest. Its name derives from the Old French "faudesteuil," a folding seat for dignitaries, but it evolved under Louis XV to become the comfortable piece of furniture with armrests we know today. Unlike a chair, it favors a wider seat and a reclined back, inviting conversation rather than a rigid posture. Whether it is a "bergère" with enclosed sides to shelter from drafts or a lighter "bridge" armchair, it embodies the evolution of the art of living.
