With its light wood lines and country spirit, this antique solid oak desk brings a soft, bright touch to any workspace. Stripped, sanded, and left in its natural wood state, it highlights a warm material enhanced by modern handles. Its generous legroom and well-thought-out storage make it a pleasant piece for everyday use, just as practical in a home office as in a bedroom. The top-left drawer, the faux-drawer on the top right, the left and right niches, and the large central drawer create a functional and balanced set. Topped with a brass lamp and paired with a wooden chair, it creates a very gentle writing nook. A second-hand piece, it bears the marks of its history: traces of the former anise green paint.

A little history of the desk
It all began with the "bure," a thick, brown wool cloth that covered the tables of copyist monks to protect their precious manuscripts. By extension, the table itself eventually took the name of the fabric that covered it: the "bureau" (desk). Unlike the secretary desk, it is defined by its wide, fixed tabletop and exposed legs, offering a workspace for reflection without artifice. Also called a "flat desk," it remains the centerpiece for anchoring a workspace with character.
