A brief history of the desk
It all begins with the "bure," the thick, brown wool cloth that covered the tables of copyist monks to protect their precious manuscripts. By extension, the table itself eventually took the name of the fabric that covered it: the "bureau" (desk). Unlike the secretary desk, it is defined by its wide, fixed top and visible base, offering a space for reflection without artifice. Also known as a "flat-top desk," it remains the centerpiece for anchoring a workspace with character.
