With its delicate cane work and dark wood, this vintage chair boasts a very elegant Italian country style. The wooden frame features an openwork backrest that visually lightens the piece, while the cane seat adds a sense of suppleness and refinement. Its generous seat height makes it a unique addition to a dining table, in a kitchen or dining room, where it pairs beautifully with raw wood or linen. Its tall format also allows it to add depth to a reading nook or bedroom. Placed near a window, it can be styled with a cotton cushion and a straw hat.

A short history of the chair
In the Middle Ages, sitting on a chair with a backrest was a rare privilege, reserved for the person presiding over the assembly: the "president" (from the Latin *praesidere*, to sit in front). Long a symbol of prestige compared to the benches and stools used by the common people, the chair did not become widespread until the 18th century, eventually becoming an everyday object. It is distinguished from the armchair by the absence of armrests, with a structure designed to offer total freedom of movement around a table or desk. The result of a constant quest for a balance between lightness and sturdiness, it has evolved from carved solid wood to more modern lines, making every seat a witness to the history of comfort.
