A brief history of the sewing box
Born in the 18th century as a "work table," the sewing box was the creation of mechanical cabinetmakers who vied with each other in ingenuity to create furniture with secret compartments. Unlike a simple box, it is defined by its light base and folding compartments designed to house threads and needles. Also called a "sewing box on legs," it is now wonderfully repurposed as a charming bedside table or jewelry box.
