A brief history of the "travailleuse" (sewing box)
Born in the 18th century as the "table à ouvrage" (work table), the "travailleuse" was the creation of cabinetmakers who vied with each other to design furniture with secret compartments. Unlike a simple box, it is defined by its light legs and expanding compartments designed to house threads and needles. Also known as a "sewing box on legs," it now makes a wonderful bedside table or a charming jewelry box.
