A brief history of the sewing cabinet
Born in the 18th century as the "work table," the sewing cabinet was the creation of cabinetmakers who vied with each other in ingenuity to create furniture with secret compartments. Unlike a simple box, it is defined by its light legs and folding drawers designed to house threads and needles. Also called a "sewing box on legs," it is now wonderfully repurposed as a charming bedside table or jewelry box.
