A brief history of the sewing box
Born in the 18th century as the "work table," the sewing box was the creation of cabinetmakers who vied with ingenuity to create furniture with secret compartments. Unlike a simple box, it is defined by its light legs and folding compartments designed to house threads and needles. Also called a "sewing box on legs," it is now wonderfully repurposed as a bedside table or a charming jewelry box.
