A brief history of the workbox
Born in the 18th century as a "work table," the workbox was the creation of mechanical cabinetmakers who vied with each other in ingenuity to create furniture with secret compartments. Unlike a simple box, it is defined by its light base and its unfolding compartments designed to house threads and needles. Also called a "sewing box on legs," it is now wonderfully repurposed as a bedside table or a charming jewelry box.
