A Brief History of the Workbox
Born in the 18th century as the "work table," the workbox was the creation of cabinetmakers and mechanics who vied with each other in ingenuity to create furniture with secret compartments. Unlike a simple box, it is defined by its light base and unfolding trays designed to hold threads and needles. Also called a "sewing box on legs," it is now wonderfully repurposed as a bedside table or a charming jewelry box.
