A Brief History of the Work Table
Born in the 18th century as the "table à ouvrage" (work table), the "travailleuse" (work table) was the creation of cabinetmakers and mechanics who competed in ingenuity to create furniture with secret compartments. Unlike a simple box, it is defined by its light base and unfolding compartments designed to house threads and needles. Also known as a "sewing box on legs," it is now wonderfully repurposed as a charming bedside table or jewelry box.
