A brief history of the sewing box
Born in the 18th century under the name "table à ouvrage" (work table), the sewing box was the creation of master cabinetmakers who vied for ingenuity to create furniture with secret compartments. Unlike a simple box, it is defined by its light legs and expanding tiers designed to house threads and needles. Also called a "sewing box on legs," it now serves wonderfully as a bedside table or a charming jewelry box.
