A brief history of the serving cart
The serving cart, also called a dumbwaiter, emerged in the 17th century. At the time, it was used to serve and clear dishes and tableware during meals. Equipped with casters, it could be moved from one place to another effortlessly and allowed the table to be cleared more quickly by reducing the number of trips between the dining room and the kitchen. It is through its great utility that the serving cart became an important piece of furniture, also serving to serve tea or breakfast. This small mobile side table has found a prominent place in our homes over the centuries.
