A brief history of the rocking chair
The rocking chair first appeared in English households in the 18th century. It reflected a new way of living for a society aspiring to greater comfort and frivolity in daily life. The family-run Thonet manufactory took hold of the model to reinvent the rocking chair using steam-bent wood techniques. The rocking chair caused a sensation in Europe and was imported to the United States, where it became a staple of the American Empire style. Its gentle sway is perfect for drifting into daydreams with a good cup of tea!
