A short history of the rocking chair
The rocking chair first appeared in English families in the 18th century. It reflected a new way of life in society, a society that yearned for more comfort and frivolity in its daily lives. The Thonet family manufacturer seized on the model to reinvent the rocking chair using the steam-bent bentwood technique. The rocking chair caused a sensation in Europe and was imported to the United States, where the rocking chair became a staple of the American Empire style. Its gentle rocking motion is perfect for drifting off to dreamland with a nice cup of tea!
