A brief history of the pedestal table
Appearing in the 17th century, the pedestal table (guéridon) takes its name from a ballet character, "Guéridon," who held a torch. Initially designed as a support for lighting (candlesticks, lamps), this small occasional piece of furniture is distinguished by its circular top resting on a single central base. Whether it's an Empire-style solid mahogany or a Seventies rattan, it adapts to all interiors as a side table or display table. Today, it remains the centerpiece for elegantly and lightly structuring a reading nook.
