A brief history of the occasional table
Appearing in the 17th century, the occasional table (guéridon) takes its name from a ballet character, "Guéridon," who held a torch. Initially designed as a support for lighting (candlesticks, lamps), this small occasional furniture piece is distinguished by its circular top resting on a single central base. Whether it's Empire style in solid mahogany or Seventies in rattan, it adapts to all interiors as an end table or display table. Today, it remains a centerpiece for elegantly and lightly structuring a reading corner.
