A brief history of the serving cart
The serving cart, also known as a dumbwaiter, originated in the 17th century. At the time, it was used to serve and clear dishes and tableware during meals. Equipped with casters, it could be moved effortlessly from one place to another, allowing for quicker table clearing by reducing the number of trips between the dining room and the kitchen. Its great utility made the serving cart an important piece of furniture, also used for serving tea or breakfast. This small mobile side table has found a prominent place in our homes over the centuries.
